Wireless Networking at UT
GET SECURE WITH nomadx!August, 2005 - The entire campus has been upgraded to 802.11b/g, with 802.11a also available in select locations. Additionally, 802.1x has been enabled campus-wide. 802.1x allows for secure, encrypted wireless sessions and helps users keep their private information safe. All recent wireless cards and operating systems are supported. To learn how to configure your system, visit our documentation page. January, 2004 - Dunford Hall has been upgraded to 54 Mbps 802.11g, which is backward compatible with 11 Mbps 802.11b. The current plan is to upgrade the whole campus to 802.11g during the Summer 2004. October 7, 2003 - UT's Nomad wireless network has been IPv6 enabled. IPv6 is the next generation protocol designed by IETF to replace the current Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4). To read more about IPv6 visit the Internet2 IPv6 web site. July 2003 - 802.11a and g wireless standards have both been ratified now. UT's wireless team is continuously evaluating these technologies for possible deployment at UT. Good news - our access points support both standards with minimal hardware upgrades! April 2003 - Dunford Hall (the home of Network Services) has a new 802.11a wireless network offering speeds of up to 54 Mbps. This is a pilot to evaluate this new wireless technology.
