Wireless-Upgrade

Phase one of the new wireless upgrade to 802.11n is complete and will officially go live Monday, July 20th.  As a result of the upgrade, UTK will have a more secure, reliable, and available network for its users.  As a part of the upgrade, the names of the wireless networks, known as the SSID's, will change, and the names will now be broadcast so users will no longer have to perform the extra step of configuring the network name.  The former network name, nomad, will remain live for a period of time while users transition to the new network.  However, we encourage everyone to join the new and improved network.

Network Services will be upgrading the wired infrastructure to support the wireless upgrade in the following buildings outside of standard business hours on the following dates:

7/15 – Neyland Drive Biology Annex, Dabney-Beuhler
 

Philippe Hanset's presentation to UTK's LAN Managers is now available for public viewing.  The presentation covers the major upgrade to wireless infrastructure to be completed by the end of the summer, and the changes users may encounter.

Network Services will be upgrading the wired infrastructure to the following buildings outside of standard business hours on the following dates:

7/7 – Claxton Education, Claxton Addition (Bailey Ed. Complex)

As OIT continues the upgrade of the wireless network to 802.11n, we will be replacing wireless access points in the following buildings during the week of 6/29/09.   These dates are tentative and will be used as a guide for the technicians.  As the access points in your building are replaced, you may experience intermittent wireless connectivity.  The outages should last no longer that 10 minutes per access point.
